15 July 2008Harry started boxing in January 03 at the Paisley YMCA. He then moved on to Bellahouston ABC before returning back to Colin Bellshaw's tutelage at his new club, Renfrewshire ABC at the start of 2007. Harry became the club's first ever champion when he won the Western District Title in Feb 2007 and doubled up on that by winning the Scottish a month later.
Harry is once again being sponsored by The Birnie Trust Sports Foundation. Their continued support for him is very much appreciated.

Scottish Youth Championships Saturday 28th March 08
In the 1992, 52kgs Quarter-Final Harry beat Tony Paul from Argo ABC. He progressed to the semi final a short time later and beat Connor Law from Kelty.
As the rules state that an amateur boxer can only have two bouts in a day, his final has been held over to a club show. Harry is now due to compete for the Scottish Title on Saturday 12th April at the Cleland Miners Show against Andrew McKenzie from Viewpark ABC.

Western District Championships Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th February 08
Harry beat Alan Keenan (Osprey ABC) in the 1992 54kg semi final with a ko after just 48 seconds.
In the final he faced Alan Cameron (Blantyre Miners ABC) and won 12-8 on points.
Harry remains unbeaten in the Western District Championships!

Harry faced Derek Skinner from Zetland in a well matched bout, losing the decision to a majority verdict against his older counterpart.
East v West District Show, Pettycur Bay, Fife Fri 9th Nov 07
Harry was originally selected to box Derek Skinner on this show, but that changed to Callum Susans two days before the fight. On the night, his opponent changed again, this time to Joe Ham (Denniston). An excellent bout ensued, possibly the bout of the night, with Joe being declared the winner.
Kilsyth Golden Gloves Show Fri 15th December 06
Harry v Ross Donaldson again, to decide the series! A decent show by Harry saw him emerge the victor by 11 points to 8.
Madison Show Thursday 25th May 06
A show of 'Champions v Champions', to which Harry Barrett was invited to box Ross Donaldson. Ross won their previous encounter at the Bellahouston Show, so Harry wanted to reverse the verdict. Harry was introduced into the blue corner by the legendary MC, Craig Stephen. This was the first time Harry had used his new boxing name, Harry 'Bad Boy' Barrett and his new entrance song 'God save the Queen' by the Sex Pistols! The first round was quite even as Harry tested Ross out, but the second round saw an increased work rate from Harry as he took the fight to the home boxer. The third round was a cracker as both lads stepped up a gear again with some solid punches landing. The unanimous verdict went to Harry on this occasion and I'm sure we'll see these two boxers competing against each other again.
New Cumnock Show Saturday 13th May 06
Danny Barrett was due to top the bill at this show in Drongan, but a mix up with his opponent's card meant the fight couldn't go ahead. This led to Harry Barrett's bout against Joe Ham (Dennistoun) now headlining. After a great introduction for both boxers from Craig Stephen, the MC, the two lads started. Harry had put on 2kgs, whilst Joe had ensured he was also at the same weight for this match to go ahead. So, with Harry giving away only a year the fight looked a great one on paper. Neither lad disappointed the crowd, with a clash of styles creating a lively contest. Harry seemed to have the best of the first round, but Joe caught him late on, causing his nose to bleed. The round ended 1-1 though. The second round started as explosively as the first as both boys pressed forward. Joe started to gain the advantage towards the end of the second but the scores were still level at 2-2. With all to fight for, it was Joe who caught the judges eyes and finished the bout as 4-3 winner. A very close contest, enjoyed by both boxers who are already talking of a rematch!
Four Nations Schoolboy Championships, Wales Friday 28th April 06
Harry Barrett faced England's experienced captain, John Dignum of Newham ABC, in the semi final of the schoolboys 44kg category this afternoon. John's experience showed through as Harry lost on a points decision. A good championship season for Harry though with the Scottish Novice and Western District Titles to add to this Four Nations Bronze Medal.
At the Bellahouston Show at the Normandy Hotel, Harry was fighting Ross Donaldson from Madison ABC, who is a year older than him.
Sunday 12th February 06
David McInally from View Park ABC had won his Semi 14-2 against Allan Cameron of Blantyre ABC and entered the final with confidence. However, Harry's greater boxing skills showed through as he connected with a variety of shots to win 10-6 and retain his Western District Title.
Saturday 11th February 06
Harry faced Cory Downie for the second time in the Semi Finals of the Western Districts 1992 44kg division. Cory fought a lot better on this occasion, but Harry still managed a 7-4 win to take him through to Sunday's final.
Saturday 26th November 05
At the final Bellahouston show to be held at the Dean Park Hotel, Harry was first up in an exhibition against his good friend from Millennium ABC, Cori Scott. These two put on a first class show of boxing skills which the audience really appreciated. Cori has been unlucky so far with his competitive fights and this exhibition proved to be exactly what he needed to raise his confidence, as he subsequently recorded his first win against Scottish Champ, Greg Knox at the Gilmerton Show a fortnight later. WELL DONE CORI.
Saturday 29th October 05
At the Jim Watt Andy Grant Memorial Tournament at Gilmerton, Harry fought Cory Downie, Newarthill in the 1992, 42kg class. Right from the opening bell, Harry boxed well, leading 6-0 at the end of the first. The second round saw Harry take a more conservative approach and try to display his skills to lead 9-1 going into the third. With the third following a similar path, Harry emerged as the ABS Novice Champion with an 11-1 win.
FRIDAY 7th OCTOBER 05
Harry once again fought Callum Susans at the Bellahouston Show . With Susans putting some weight on over the summer and Harry remaining the same 41kg, the difference in size was noticeable. This was Harry's worst fight to date, with Susans connecting with some solid swings. Harry had his share of successful punches but it wasn't enough and Susans won on a majority decision again.
FRIDAY 6th MAY 05
At the Bellahouston Show on Fri 6th May 05, Harry fought against Callum Susans from Dunfermline ABC. He lost on a majority verdict, a close call, probably due to Harry's work rate, although he did put Susans on the floor with a right hook. Another learning experience, this time against an older boxer, again with thrice the experience.
SATURDAY 19th MARCH 05
Harry beat Cori Scott from Millennium ABC again in the Scottish Semi Final, 1992, 42kg division on Sat 19th Mar 05. He then went on to lose to Daniel McAdam from Granite City in the final. He did really well for his first championships and is now looking forward to using his experience and going one better next year.
SATURDAY 12th MARCH 05
Harry beat Cori Scott from Millennium ABC in the Western District Semi Final, 1992, 42kg division on Sat 12th Mar 05. He then fought Jamie Jackson from Barn ABC in the final on Sun 13th March and won. He is now the new WESTERN DISTRICT CHAMPION.
